About the project

Proyecto Gamarra or Project Gamarra, is an activist design initiative that aims to inform and raise awareness among users [consumers, producers, providers] about the impact and importance of the Gamarra Commercial Emporium within the Peruvian fashion system, using two platforms: ART and WEB.

Rafia

This is the first Fashion & Design collection of the project. Created by Lucia Cuba (Designer and Director of PROJECT GAMARRA) RAFIA is inspired, designed and made in recycled “rafia” material. Rafia plastic bags are a common element in the Commercial Emporium context.

Gamarra

The Gamarra Commercial Emporium, also known as “Gamarra”, is a place located in the district of La Victoria, in Lima – Peru, with great commercial movement primarily related to the textile and fashion industry.

Its growth and development since 1970 contains histories of personal effort, persistence and success. Gamarra has served as motivation and example for the creation of many small and medium Peruvian enterprises, allowing for the emergence of large brands and local stores, playing an important role in the development of the fashion and textile system in Peru.
